Frequently Asked Questions

My end goal is to produce quality images that not only captures the personality of the subject, but also will be lasting and unique.  If you have ever wished that you could bottle the spirit, the smile, the laughter of someone you love, then you already understand the focus of my art.

How does a session work?

I will work with you either in a studio session or on location.  Outdoor location settings allow for much more creativity and are my favorite.  If the goal is to capture a truly 'organic' feel - natural settings are the way to go.  The location can be as basic as a backyard or a local park as the emphasis will be on you.

Most sessions (without a wardrobe change) last a hour to hour and a half.  Close-ups, headshots, half and three-quarter body shots are taken.  Of course, other dynamics come into play depending on your requirements for the images you need when booking your session.

If you are seeking a variety of 'expressions' for a portfolio (wardrobe changes) this involves additional time – these sessions may last two or more hours.

Whether it is a business portrait, a family photograph or just something wild for yourself, I keep an open dialogue implementing your ideas as well as offering suggestions.

Clothing

Your portfolio photos or headshots should be a clear representation of yourself. Generally, you want to look the way you would normally look when well dressed.

Unless you are modeling seasonal clothing, it is always best to keep your clothes as simple as possible, so as not to take away from YOU, the subject. Solid colors work great.  For group or family shoots coordinate your clothing accordingly – you want to look like a 'cohesive' family.

I am open to your ideas for the look of your portraits and view our time together as a collaboration of ideas.  We will discuss clothing in detail on the phone prior to your session. For most location sessions, I suggest simple, casual clothing such as nice sweaters, dress shirts, and even t-shirts. Denim or khaki slacks and a plain top often looks great.

Remember it is usually best not to detract attention from your face.  My suggestions:

Jewelry - no large earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings or watches.

Clothes - do not wear anything with large product logos, ruffles, or busy prints.  Hats can be used for some images, but please do not arrive at the session wearing anything on your head (it will flatten your hair). For children a change of clothing is usually a good idea in event something does not remain clean or becomes wrinkled.

If you are tanning, be careful not to get too much sun immediately prior to the session.  If you get a lot of sun the day before, you will look red the day of the shoot.  Allow a couple of days for your skin to recover.  It is also best to avoid large amounts of imitation tanning solutions or heavy make-up.  Remember, the goal is to look natural.

How do I view my images?

Because I shoot digitally, I can provide online images within a few days of the session.

All images are numbered for easy selection and my favorite photographs are noted to aid in your image selection.

Printing

I match up the specific color profile in my post processing with the identical profile used by my developing lab.  These images are printed on professional-grade fiber-based paper to provide for an enduring archival print.  You may order additional images at any time within twelve months of the session.

Session Fee

A retainer is required to hold an appointment, please email or call for scheduling a session and pricing questions.  Any balance will be due at the time of your appointment.
